Marc Matrana, M.D., M.Sc., FACP

Dr. Marc Matrana is a ninth-generation native of the New Orleans area. He is a practicing, board-certified medical oncologist who currently serves as the Director of the Ochsner Precision Cancer Therapies Program, the only dedicated early phase clinical trials program for cancer patients between Houston and Birmingham. He holds an Endowed Professorship in experimental therapeutics at Ochsner Health System and serves as faculty with the University of Queensland School of Medicine in Brisbane, Australia and with LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Matrana has conducted more than 100 clinical trials in cancer and authored more than 100 medical articles, abstracts, and books, and he has served as editor or reviewer for dozens of medical journals and textbooks. He has presented his research at numerous conferences around the world.

Dr. Matrana earned both a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master of Science degree in human genetics from Tulane University. He received his medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine at New Orleans. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Ochsner Clinic Foundation where he served as Chief Resident. He completed his oncology training at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he served as Chief Fellow for Resident Medical Education and overall Chief Fellow.

He is the recipient of numerous awards, including Young Alumnus of the Year for the Tulane University School of Science and Engineering, New Physician of the Year for the Ochsner Health System, and the Ochsner Spirit of Leadership Philanthropy Partner of the Year Award. He was named one of Gambit’s 40 Under 40, in 2017 he received the Miracle Maker Award from the Moonlight and Miracles Gala and was selected as a Beau for the 2019 American Cancer Society Belles and Beaus Ball. He was named a New Orleans CityBusiness Healthcare Hero in 2020. He has raised several million dollars for cancer research and regularly volunteers his time and talent to benefit the cancer patients of Louisiana.
