Dr. Brian Persing — Singing River Cancer Center
Brian Persing received his undergraduate degree in chemistry and his medical degree from the University of South Dakota. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency and Hematology and Oncology Fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He entered into practice on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and remained there for 11 years. An opportunity to join an academic practice at the University of South Alabama, Mitchell Cancer Institute arose and with a desire to teach and advance care locally, he joined as an Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary 0ncology. While there for 4 years, he became Program Director of the Medical Oncology Fellowship and aided in transitioning it into a combined Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program. He led the Division of Hematology and Oncology as the Arlene and Mayer Mitchell Chair before returning to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. His clinical focus includes thoracic malignancies, precision medicine, and incorporation of innovative technology into the clinical experience. He has desire to ensure that cancer care provided for individuals and their loved ones continues to improve. He derives his enjoyment from direct patient care focusing on communication, education, and advocacy.
