Dr. Mary Nordberg — Willis Knighton Cancer Center
Dr. Mary Lowery Nordberg is a graduate of Texas A&M University and the University of Texas Medical Branch. She has completed fellowships in OB/GYN Tumor Genetics (LSUHSC- Shreveport) and Medical Genetics/Cytogenetics (University of Utah Medical School). She was formerly the Director of the Cytogenetics/Molecular Genetics Laboratory at Penrose Hospital (Colorado Springs), LSU Medical Center/Feist-Weiller Cancer Center (Shreveport) and The Delta Pathology Group (Delta MDx- Shreveport). In her role as Professor at LSU Health, she is actively involved in genetics education and research for medical students, residents, fellows, and staff. She joined the staff at Willis Knighton Cancer Center in 2019, creating the WK Genetics Clinic, providing genetics consultations, genetic testing, navigation, and patient education for high-risk cancer patients and their families. She is a consultant for Lake Charles Memorial Hospital/Genetics, providing similar services for the LCMH Genetics Clinic. She is an active member in FORCE, a national group that facilitates liaisons, advocacy, and education for high-risk cancer patients and their families (Facing Our Risks of Cancer Empowered; www.facingourrisks.org). Dr. Nordberg serves as a consultant for the National Breast Center Consortium, serving as a consultant for the certification exam for qualified members (Certification for Genetics Risk Assessment- CGRA). In the Northwest Louisiana Community, she is past president and Board-member of the Caddo-Bossier Cancer Foundation League (CBCFL), an organization that supports patients receiving cancer treatment in the form of lodging, transportation, and other needs. As a new member of CAGLA, Dr. Nordberg is excited to use her skills in promoting cancer advocacy beyond North Louisiana to provide more state-wide/nationwide efforts to benefit patients in need.
